Labor Day Parade

The Fond du Lac County Labor Council will be hosting their annual Labor Day parade and celebration in Fond du Lac.  The Main Street parade starts at Rees Street and runs north to Scott Street and will end there because of road work at the enterence to Lakeside Park.  The annual picnic will still take place at Lakeside Park from Noon to 4pm with free rides for the kids and face painting.  The Real Deal Blues Band will play from 1pm to 4pm.  You will be able to purchase food at the event.

 

Offices Closed

Most government offices are closed today for Labor Day.  Many businesses are also closed so please call ahead if you have things you have to take care of.

 

Labor Day Traffic

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says that traffic will be heavy across the state today as people return from a long Labor Day weekend holiday.  Officials say the heaviest traffic will be on Wisconsin roads between Noon and 8pm today.  You are also reminded that over 330 law enforcement agencies are taking part in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

 

City Of FDL Update Codes

The City of Fond du Lac is currently involved in updating its codes. City Attorney Deb Hoffmann updated the Council on process during their recent. She says the code hasn’t had a thorough update since 1993. She says once the firm doing the update for the City is done copies of the book will be available at the City Clerk’s Office and the Public Library. The public will have a couple weeks to look at the draft before a public hearing is scheduled at a City Council meeting. She says the final changes and edits to the code will be completed in the next month or so. She says the cost to update the codes is approximately $18,000. Hoffmann says some of the codes are outdated and make reference to state statutes that have been changed or no longer apply.

 

Brooke Street Closed Through Holiday Weekend

The Fond du Lac Department of Public Works says that Brooke Street at the Auburn Street intersection will be closed until Tuesday.  Access to Auburn Street businesses will be maintained but limited.

 

Marian Gets DPI Approval

The Marian University School of Education was recently granted continued approval by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Continuous Review Process (CRP). The five year review visit conducted in April confirmed that Marian’s School of Education programs remain in compliance with PI 34. This approval by the state allows Marian University to continue to license highly qualified educators through the 2017-2018 academic year. The School of Education is also accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The NCATE seven-year accreditation visit will occur in April of 2014.

 

United Cooperative Merges With Hillsboro Farms Coop

The members of Hillsboro Farmers Cooperative have voted to merge with United Cooperative in Beaver Dam. “United Cooperative is pleased to see this positive result from the voting process with Hillsboro Farmers Cooperative,” commented David Cramer, United Cooperative president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to serving these patron members with assets obtained through the merger, as well as future equipment and facility investments already in the planning stages. We’re also pleased to welcome the Hillsboro Farmers Cooperative employees into the United Cooperative family.”  The merge will become final on October 1^st.   Formed in 1936, United Cooperative is a full-service cooperative with feed, grain, agronomy, fuel, lubricant, and propane locations throughout Wisconsin. They documented $643 million in sales in 2012, up $120 million from 2011 due to strong internal growth and three mergers in northern Wisconsin. United Cooperative employs about 650 full-time, part-time, and seasonal Wisconsin residents.
