Lomira Finds Success Under Interim Coach Zedler

The Lomira boys basketball team has struggled in recent years finding much success. As the 2023-2024 season started the team had a change at the top when head coach Tyler Witkowski who had been coaching the program for 20 years resigned right before the first practice. The sudden change gave long time assistance Tim Zelder a chance to take over at the helm as interim coach of the Lomira boys basketball program. Zedler has coached many different levels in his decade plus at Lomira including freshman and JV. This season the team has rallied behind there interim coach to a 11-6 record, 7-2 in the Flyway Conference which is good enough for 3rd place right now. The team is current on a 6 game winning streak and will put that on the line at home Friday night against conference leader and undefeated Omro.

As the success continues to grow the community of Lomira is rallying around the program. Zedler says “Lomira is not a big community. The other day I stopped in the gas station in the morning before school to grab some coffee and a group of guys that are normally in there drinking their coffee and I get little comments like good game last night and stuff like that.”

Lomira is led in scoring on the season by both Junior Jackson Goebel and 6’9″ Sophomore Jake Broeske who are both averaging 14 points a game.

The football program showed much improvement and success this year and the boys basketball program is keeping the momentum moving forward in Lomira.

The program is in good hands with Coach Zedler and that interim tag should be removed in the near future.
