Longtime friend of KFIZ and the community Ed Barnes died this week at the age of 71. Ed was commander of the American Legion Post in Fond du Lac and President of Salute the Troops. But he also served on a number of boards and committees. He was an active volunteer in a number of causes. One of his proudest accomplishments was the creation of the September 11th Hero Stamp. He also pushed for a Medal of Honor for World War II Hero and Fond du Lac native Lt. Colonel James Maggie Megellas. Ed did get to see the post office, the American Legion building, a park named after Megellas in Fond du Lac. Former KFIZ Breakfast Club Host Wade Bates dubbed Ed Fond du Lac’s “Professional Man of Leisure” and it stuck with all the activities he was involved in.
