Major Winter Storm To Hit State

UPDATED TO REFLECT ISSUANCE OF WINTER STORM WARNING:

A major winter storm continues to affect our area.

The National Weather Service has the entire state of Wisconsin under a winter storm warning, with the exception of the southern most counties which are under an ice storm warning.

Snow will start this evening with 1-2 inches likely, with snow continuing Wednesday into Wednesday night where another 5-8 inches is likely.

Forecast models show us very near the boundary of where snow totals will drop off sharply and they continue to wobble back and forth with heavier amounts and lighter amounts, so totals could vary either way, depending on where the storm center tracks.

Minnesota into central Wisconsin is bracing for the worst of the storm.

Blizzard warnings are already out for south west Minnesota where they expect to get 20 inches of snow coupled with winds as high as 50 miles per hour making travel practically impossible.

The National Weather Service in Minneapolis is saying this storm will likely rank as a top 5 storm of all time for total snowfall for east central Minnesota into west central Wisconsin.

Stay tuned to KFIZ as we track the progress of this potentially crippling winter storm.
