Two separate ice rescues Friday – including man and 4-wheeler who broke through ice on Lake Poygan

At 4:25 PM, Friday, February 9, 2024, multiple resources including Town of Winneconne/Poygan Fire and First Responders, and three rescue boats from various departments responded to the west end of Lake Poygan for a report of someone yelling for help north of Captains Cove Restaurant.
As emergency crews were responding to the scene, the person who fell through the ice called and said he was one mile straight north of Captains Cove next to a red shanty and is waist deep in water, standing on the 4-wheeler he was on that broke through the ice.
While crews were working the first rescue, another report of someone through the ice came in near the first one.
At about 4:45 a call came into the Waushara County dispatch center of a man in the water north of Blanco Road. A fire fighter on scene also said a person said he could hear someone yelling for help.
At 5:00 PM a call came in from the second person through the ice saying he was able to self extricate from the ice and he made it to a near-by residence.
This is a developing story. KFIZ will have more as details are released.
