Man And Dog Rescued From Icy Pond

The Town of Calumet Fire Department was paged yesterday to a call of a person in the water through the ice on a pond off of Dead Point Road.

As officers and fire department members arrived on scene, it was learned that a 21 year old man had gone out in the pond in a john boat to rescue a dog that had wandered out on the ice.

The man was in the boat at the time of the rescue but was in the water at some point before emergency officials arrived.

The boat was now stuck in ice and the man was unable to get back to shore.

Fire department members in wetsuits made there way about 25 yards out in the water and ice and were able to bring the boat with the man and dog to shore.

An ambulance was called to check the man for hypothermia.
