Man breaks restraining order to set woman’s house on fire

A Sheboygan Falls man is in custody after setting a house on fire during a domestic dispute yesterday.

Just before 4:30 PM, the Sheboygan County Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call about a disturbance in the N6100 block of Sunset Avenue in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. The caller reported that their female neighbor had a protective order against a man who was now inside of the home. The man had physically attacked the female, was destroying property, threatened to burn down the home, and was huffing from a deodorant can.

From outside of the residence the first Deputy on scene observed the man inside, dumping gasoline throughout the home. The Deputy entered the home and the man lit the gas on fire. The officer attempted to subdue the man but he was combative. A second Deputy arrived and they were able to restrain the man but he continued to physically resist their efforts to remove him from the house.

By the time they were able to control the man, the fire had grown substantially and the house was now filling with smoke. The Deputies were forced to exit the residence without the man.

As more Deputies arrived they used numerous fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the fire. They were eventually able to re-enter the home and remove the man who was found in a bedroom. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released into police custody where he is being held on potential charges of:

  • Disorderly Conduct (Domestic Violence)
  • Battery (Domestic Violence)
  • Intimidation of a Victim
  • Criminal Damage to Property
  • 2nd Degree Reckless Endangering of Safety
  • Arson

Two Deputies involved were taken to local hospitals for medical treatment.
