Man High On Heroin Leads Officers On Chase

Several Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies chased a man all the way up to, and through a good portion of Oshkosh last night.

Shortly after 10 PM a call came into the Fond du Lac County Communications Center reporting a reckless driver on 41.

An officer located the vehicle driving on 41 northbound and attempted to stop it, but the driver increased his speeds to 100 mph, continuing north.

An officer further north that was dealing with a disabled vehicle was able to deploy a tire deflation device which was successful but the driver continued at high speeds.

Traffic in the area was backed up due to the disabled vehicle and the fleeing driver attempted to pass cars on the right shoulder, striking a vehicle with four occupants, including 2 children.

The vehicle continued north, entering Winnebago County and eventually exited on the north side of Oshkosh where the driver turned south on Algoma Blvd into the city of Oshkosh, at this point, driving on the rim of one of his wheels.

The driver continued, travelling through the University of Oshkosh Campus, then towards downtown, driving right past the Oshkosh Police Station.

At times the man drove the wrong way down one way streets with the vehicles lights off.

The man then turned east on Washington Avenue, going to about a block from Lake Winnebago where he abandoned the car and attempted to flee officers on foot.

After a short foot chase, and with the help of Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department k9 Iro, the man was caught.

The 40- year-old Marathon County man, who has an open case pending against him for possession of cocaine, is suspected of being under the influence of heroin, marijuana, and possibly other illegal substances during the pursuit which lasted 22.8 miles.
