Man in custody after brief pursuit and crash in Fond du Lac
Friday the 13th was especially unlucky for a man who ended up in police custody after a police chase, crash in his vehicle and getting tazed during a foot pursuit.
The melee started at about 3:50 PM when a Fond du Lac County Deputy saw a tagged vehicle with Illinois plates hit on a Flock camera on Prospect and Swan Drive in the village of North Fond du Lac.
Dispatch advised that the registered owner from Illinois had several warrants and multiple officers started searching the area for the suspect vehicle which was a 2022 Black Nissan Altima.
At 3:57, the vehicle was seen on another Flock camera on Johnson Street near Highway 41.
At 4:04 another Flock camera hit was seen on Johnson Street, eastbound at Highway 41 and a minute later, a Fond du Lac County Deputy observed the vehicle on Johnson near Peters.
At 4:08, multiple officers stopped the vehicle behind Papa Johns Restaurant off of west Johnson Street. After boxing the suspect in with their squad cars, the suspect started pushing other vehicle with his vehicle in an attempt to get away.
The suspect made it to Arndt Street and drove west with officers now in pursuit reaching speeds of 73 mph before going south on Peters Avenue.
The suspect continued south on Peters at 78 mph and struck a vehicle just south of Johnson Street. With his vehicle disabled, the suspect started running south on foot but was captured about 75 yards from where his car became disabled. Officers then used a tazer to get the suspect to comply and took him into custody.
Once in custody, the suspect was complaining of being short of breath and was reportedly going in and out of consciousness so an ambulance was called.
According to a police press release, the individual had 10 felony warrants for his arrest and a caution indicator as he was known to possess a handgun. In addition, the vehicle had recently been involved in at least three vehicle pursuits in Dane County.
In addition to the 10 felony warrants, he will be held on the following charges: Fleeing / Eluding, multiple counts of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Resisting / Obstructing, seven counts of Felony Bail Jumping, and Possession of THC
