Man sitting on bridge ledge closes Highway 151 and south Main Street

A man suffering a mental health crisis was assisted by Fond du Lac County law enforcement Thursday night, July 24, 2025.
At 11:25 pm a deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office came upon the man who was sitting on the outer ledge of the south Main Street bridge over Highway 151, with his feet dangling over the edge.
The officer called for other officers and then attempted to talk with the man, and get him to come off the ledge, however the man continued to not comply with the deputy’s requests.
An officer with the Fond du Lac Police Department who is trained in crisis negotiation, arrived on scene to talk with the man. The officer was able to make phone contact with the man however while on the phone, the man pulled out a knife and began to cut themselves. He also took an unknown amount of medications.
After about an hour and a half of negotiating with the man, he walked away from the edge of the bridge and to a group of officers where he was taken into custody.
He was transported to SSM Health St Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac to be treated for his self-inflicted injuries.
South Main Street and Highway 151 were closed in the area for the duration of the incident.
