Man spends almost one hour in Lake Winnebago after police chase

A Beaver Dam man is in custody Thursday, October 9, 2025, after trying to elude police, but ended up with his vehicle 30 feet into Lake Winnebago.

Around 2:30 am The Calumet County Sheriff’s office was chasing a vehicle driven by a man wanted in Brown County for substantial battery and fleeing eluding.

Around 2:40 the suspect entered into Fond du Lac County west on County HH. At 151 the suspect turned north and then west on the dead end of Artesia Road. At the dead end, the subject drove into Lake Winnebago. Officers with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office had the suspect at gunpoint, but he failed to obey commands to get out of the vehicle and swim to shore.

For almost an hour the man stayed in his vehicle before finally surrendering at about 3:40 am.
