Man Wanted In Battery Incident Flees Police, Caught After 10 Mile Pursuit

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Officer was pursuing a reckless driver yesterday before he even knew the man was about to become the center of his next assignment.

Just before 7 PM last night, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center took a call from a St Cloud resident saying that he was just struck by his father and that his father was intoxicated. The caller indicated his father was now leaving the residence in a gold minivan.

Before dispatchers had a chance to relay any information to deputies, a sheriff’s deputy who just happened to be patrolling in the area was almost struck by the gold minivan
when it pulled out of the driveway at a high rate of speed.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for failing to yield right of way but the vehicle sped off attempting to elude the officer.

A pursuit was initiated southbound on County Highway G as the deputy was made aware of the related 911 call. The driver then turned eastbound on County Highway C entering Sheboygan County.

With speeds reaching 100 mph, the driver approached the village of Glenbeulah turning southbound on County Highway A.

Another Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deputy was positioned with spike strips on A near Highway 23 and in an attempt to avoid hitting them, the driver pulled into a driveway and lost control of the minivan. The minivan struck a road sign and then became disabled in the ditch. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

The 59 year-old man from St. Cloud has four open cases through Fond du Lac County and is currently on probation. Three of the open cases have conditions stating the man
must remain sober. He has one prior OWI conviction, and another pending OWI charge making this his third time being arrested for OWI. The man also was charged with felony fleeing/eluding, four misdemeanor bail-jumping charges, and other traffic citations stemming from the incident.
