Man who struck Waupaca County officer with his car captured in Fond du lac County

Law enforcement in three counties were involved in capturing a person that reportedly struck a Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy with their car and then took off.

The incident started Tuesday night, September 1, 2026, with a 911 call reporting a man was at a residence where he wasn’t wanted in Waupaca County. As a deputy arrived on scene and got out of his cruiser, the man drove away striking the officer.

An attempt to locate was issued for the surrounding counties and soon after a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the vehicle southbound on 41. The driver exited onto Highway 21 and the deputy attempted to pit the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. While the deputy did strike the suspect vehicle, the driver was able to keep going. The deputy that inadvertently ran over tire spikes that were layed out by another officer and the driver was able to get away.

Soon after, the vehicle was spotted in Fond du Lac County, still southbound on Highway 41. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver pulled over at Highway N, giving up with no other issues.

Deputies took the man into custody, and with no arrestable charges in Fond du Lac County, they held the man until a Waupaca County Deputy arrived to take the man into custody.
