Manure Composting Gaining Popularity In Area, Field Day To Answer Questions

Growing interest in manure composting has a farm in Dane County holding a field day event to demonstrate and discuss manure composting and it’s benefits.

On September 12th, at 9:30 am, the event will take place at the Bruce and Karl Sime Farm at 1192 Starr School Rd near Stoughton, WI.

The field day will feature a panel of dairy and beef producers currently managing a portion of their manure with composting. They’ll discuss their methods and objectives for
composting as well as successes and challenges.

UW-Extension researchers will provide practical insights into the science of composting as well as guidelines for sampling and lab submission for estimating nutrient availability.

The UW Extension of Dodge County says composted manure provides a more stable and concentrated source of soil nutrients and organic matter and that manure composting methods can be adapted to farms of all sizes and livestock types.

Those interested in attending should contact Will Fulwider of the Dane and Dodge County UW Extension at 608-220-3577 or email wfulwider@wisc.edu .
