Marian Men’s Basketball Tied a Program Record Ninth Straight Win

In a thrilling basketball showdown, Marian came out strong, scoring the first seven points of the game. Despite this early lead, the first half remained tightly contested, with both teams exchanging baskets in a one-possession game. The Sabres initially led 11-6, but a 7-1 run from Benedictine saw the Eagles take a narrow 13-12 lead.

The game continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with the teams eventually tied at 25-25. Benedictine managed to edge ahead, scoring four of the next seven points to take a slim one-point lead into halftime.

The second half began with another strong start from Marian, who scored the first six points to take a 34-29 lead, prompting a timeout from Benedictine. The Eagles regrouped and managed to tie the game at 36-36. However, Marian responded with a powerful 16-2 run, pulling ahead 52-38 and forcing another timeout from the Eagles with 13:35 left to play.

Benedictine fought back with six unanswered points, cutting the deficit to eight. A timely timeout from Marian stalled the Eagles’ momentum, and the Sabres quickly extended their lead back to double digits, holding a 58-46 advantage with 9:35 remaining.

Marian maintained a comfortable lead at 68-57 with 4:49 left on the clock. Benedictine made a final push, scoring six straight points to narrow the gap to 68-63 with 2:26 to play. However, a clutch three-pointer from senior Eli Vogel on the next possession ended the Eagles’ run and put Marian back up by eight.

The Sabres entered the final minute ahead 71-65 and sealed the game by going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, securing a 76-67 victory tying a program record with there ninth straight win.
