Marian Students Capture Top Spots At WI Stock Market Competiton
Two teams from the Marian University School of Business received awards for first and second place in the Adult/Technical/College Division of the Wisconsin Stock Market Simulation sponsored by EconomicsWisconsin.
The student teams each managed a hypothetical $100,000 in online investment portfolios for 10 weeks during the fall semester. Awards were given to students managing the portfolios with the highest values at the end of the 10 weeks.
First place in the Wisconsin College/Technical College/Adult Division was awarded to Marian’s team of Michael Baldwin of Waukesha, Justin Cooke of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Niles Owen of Linden, Mich. The second place team consisted of Daniel Heerhold of Somonauk, Ill., Shannon Morris of Fond du Lac and Nicholas Weinberger of Mayville.
The students are seniors in the School of Business at Marian University, and participated in the Stock Market Simulation as part of a project for their investments class taught by Professor Katherine Schuessler. In building a portfolio, students research and evaluate stocks and mutual funds, and strive to create the best performing portfolio using a live trading simulation.
The students received cash awards and will also be recognized for their achievements at the Marian University School of Business Awards Ceremony on April 20, 2017.
