Mayville man dead from self inflicted gunshot after police make contact

Law enforcement in Dodge County had an incident unfold in Mayville Friday afternoon, July 12, 2024.

Officers were on their way to do a welfare check in the 400 block of Henninger Street. As officers arrived, they saw the man in question retrieve something from a car and retreat back into the house. Shortly after they heard gunfire.

Officers retreated, called for back-up and surrounded the house. After about two hours of trying to get in contact with the man, officers proceeded to enter the residence and found the 34-year-old deceased of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The Mayville Police Department is investigating the situation.
