Military jet activity to increase this week

It’s that time of year again. Like in years past in August, people in the lower two-thirds of Wisconsin can expect to see and hear military jet activity overhead.

Nineteen units representing the Air Force, National Guard and Marine Corps are coming together at Volk Field in Juneau County for the Northern Lightning Counterland exercise.

The exercise runs from Monday, August 5, through Friday, August 16.

The jets will be running training exercises over much of central Wisconsin, including the skies over Fond du Lac, Winnebago and Sheboygan Counties.

A representative for the exercise said, “Northern Lightning ’24 is focused on advanced combat and the ability to execute in a contested environment with an agile footprint that replicates operational expectations in the Pacific theater,”

This year’s exercise involves more than 1,100 personnel from 14 states, including Wisconsin.
