Milwaukee Man Charged In FDL Woman’s Overdose Death
Cash bond was set at $1 million for a 34-year-old Milwaukee man charged Friday for the heroin overdose death of a 27-year-old Fond du Lac woman. Roy Whitelow was charged with 1st degree reckless homicide and heroin trafficking when he appeared in Fond du Lac County Court. Whitelow is accused of selling heroin to Heather Fugate that caused her death on February 12th. Fugate rented a room at a Fond du Lac hotel on February 10th and 11th and investigators found out through hotel records that Whitelow visited her. He had to provide a photo ID to get a copy of the key to her room and hotel employees made a photo copy of the ID. The two had arranged the meeting through text messaging. In fact police used her phone to text Whitelow after her death to set up a meeting at a local gas station and that’s where they arrested Whitelow. His DNA was also used to match samples from a heroin baggie recovered from Fugate’s home after her death. An autopsy determined she died from heroin toxicity. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile Whitelow has a two-day jury trial starting Wednesday on a battery to a law enforcement officer charge related to a struggle he put up while a DNA sample was being taken at the County Jail in February. The two new charges together would carry a maximum penalty of up to 52 ½ years in prison.
