Milwaukee Public Museum gets new name to go along with new location

The Milwaukee Public Museum has announced it will change its name to the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin when it opens its new location in early 2027.
In 2017 The Museum announced it would relocate to a newly constructed building along North Sixth Street, between West McKinley Avenue and West Vliet Street, after a study revealed the existing building needed extensive and costly repairs.
The new name reflects the museum’s focus on the relationship between humans and their natural environment through time, highlighting its shared statewide natural and cultural history and identity. This will be showcased throughout the exhibits and reflected in the building’s design, according to a press release.
The newly revealed logo represents both the museum’s exterior shape based off rock formations at Mill Bluff State Park in central Wisconsin that served as design inspiration.
New amenities of the museum include: A Planetarium, Butterfly Vivarium, Rooftop Terrace, a Café and an Outdoor commons area called “the Plaza”
The current museum location will remain open until the new location opens.
