Missing boy’s mother taken into custody for child neglect

Day three of searching for a missing Two Rivers toddler took an unexpected turn yesterday, Thursday, February 22, 2024, when it was learned the boys mother was taken into custody about 4 AM Wednesday morning.

Katrina Baur is facing a possible charge of party to a crime of child neglect as well as a man that was also taken into custody on Tuesday. His name is Jesse Vang. Neither has been officially charged and both are scheduled to appear in court this afternoon at 12:45.

Meanwhile the search continues for 3-year-old Elijah Vue who was reported missing Tuesday morning. An Amber Alert was issued for the child that afternoon.

Searching expanded outside of Manitowoc County Thursday when investigators were seen at a Calumet County landfill site. When asked about the location, the Two Rivers
Police Chief stated, “We will leave no stone unturned. You will continue to see similar large-scale searches as we receive tips and continue our search for Elijah.” Witnesses said they saw orange cones and some yellow crime scene tape, crime scene technicians with white suits, as well as marked and unmarked investigator vehicles at the landfill. The site is one of three landfills used by Manitowoc County for its garbage disposal.

Police are saying this appears to be an isolated case and no other children are in danger in the area.
