Mock Tornado Drills to take place Thursday

It’s Severe weather awareness week and the National Weather Service will be conducting two mock tornado warnings today so people can practice their plans of what to do if a real tornado warning is issued. The test times of 1:45 PM and 6:45 PM were picked so most people can do the test at work and then again at home.
Some municipalities will sound their tornado sirens during the warning and some may choose not to. The National Weather Service says they will not be utilizing the push alert to cell phones during this test.
Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes per year, with 46 touching down in the state last year. Most tornadoes occur in the 3 to 9 P.M. time-frame, with the busiest spin-up hour being 6 to 7 P.M. The peak tornado season in Wisconsin is May through August, with June having the greatest number of tornadoes. The most tornadoes to be documented in one year was 62 in 2005.
