Mt. Calvary Hallmark Villa Loretto To Close

SSM Health says it will be closing the long time running Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary as demand for skilled nursing beds has been declining. Villa Loretto is at less than half its 50-bed capacity. Coupled with the facility’s aging physical plant, and after a period of rigorous discernment, SSM determined it would be best to consolidate their skilled nursing operations to St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac.
In a statement, SSM says “We believe that residents will benefit from St Francis Home’s state-of-the-art services, including its 24-hour nursing care and inpatient physical rehabilitation unit thanks to its direct attachment to St. Agnes Hospital. We are working with Villa Loretto residents and their loved ones to assist them in relocating to St. Francis Home or to a nearby location of their choosing. We will remain open until each resident is properly relocated to a new place of residence that meets their needs and preferences.”
Employees at Villa Loretto also have been invited to transition to jobs at St. Francis Home or to another of SSMs facilities. The assisted living facilities at the adjacent Villa Rosa and petting zoo at Cristo Rey Ranch will remain open.
Some staff and residents in the Mt Calvary area say the closing has come as a shock to them and the transition has been difficult to embrace as the facility has been a part of the community for so long. Villa Loretto opened in 1965.
