National Guard finishes deployment to Fox Cities for tornado clean up assistance

The Wisconsin National Guard has completed a 16-day mission helping with storm recovery in Winnebago County.

The Guard was activated July 30, 2026, following the state of emergency declared after severe storms, high winds, hail and an EF3 tornado caused widespread damage around Neenah, Menasha and Appleton.

About 85 soldiers from multiple Wisconsin National Guard units helped manage street closures, control vehicle access in heavily damaged neighborhoods and oversee natural debris collection sites.

Winnebago County Emergency Management says the Guard’s assistance helped keep residents, volunteers and cleanup crews safe while allowing local law enforcement to focus on other duties.

The Wisconsin Army National Guard says the activation concluded August 15.
