New details show events leading up to Dodge County Amber Alert

New information has been released that details events leading up to last weekends Amber Alert that was issued in Dodge County.

Police are still on the lookout for 40-year-old Gary Day who they say came up from Arkansas to take 16-year-old Sophia Franklin from her Beaver Dam Home.

According to the criminal complaint, Franklin snuck away to live with Day for several months last year in Arkansas, when she told her parents she was staying with a friend for the summer.

Lonoke County (Arkansas) Sheriff John Staley stated that when they found this out, Day was charged with interference with visitation, which is a felony and contributing to the delinquency of a minor because he had transported her across state lines. He was ordered to have no contact with Franklin, but police believe Day has taught Franklin ways to get around this order and they have been communicating through various ways including cell phones.

Franklin was last seen Sunday night and home security footage shows Day outside the house Monday morning. His vehicle was parked a block away. After leaving with Franklin, police say Day changed the plates on his car at least twice to avoid being tracked on license plate reader cameras.

Franklin is also said to be three months pregnant with Day’s baby.

He faces charges of child enticement and abduction of a child.
