New Lakeside Park Pedestrian Bridge Delayed

Work on the new pedestrian bridge that will connect Lakeside West and East has begun this week, but the estimated date the project will be finished has been pushed back.

This is due to the bridge supplier informing the city that delivery of the bridge has been pushed back to the first quarter of 2024. This has changed from the fall of 2023 that was indicated by multiple bridge suppliers during the design phase.

Due to this delay, after the initial phase is complete in May, work on the project will halt until the fall of 2023 after Labor Day.

The contractor will install the piling, abutments, wall, and backfilling.

Work at the site will again halt until the spring of 2024 when the bridge will be delivered to the site and set in place.

Final work at the site will be the asphalt trail, asphalt roadway, concrete sidewalk, and turf restoration.

The project now has a completion date planned for the middle to end of May 2024, at which time the trail and bridge will be opened to the public.

The first portion of the project being done now includes erosion control, grading, embankment fill, along with other miscellaneous work. This initial phase of work
is tentatively scheduled for completion by the end of May, weather dependent. Fraizer Point will be closed during some of this work.
