Nine Tornadoes Touch Down In Wisconsin March 31st

The National Weather Service In Southeast Wisconsin has finished doing storm damage surveys from the March 31,2023 severe weather that effected southern Wisconsin and found that 9 tornadoes touched down in 5 counties.

Walworth, Rock, Green, Dane and Jefferson Counties all saw at least one tornado.

The tornadoes occurred between 7:08 and 8:17 PM.

The tornado with the longest path was in Walworth County. The tornado was already in progress as the storm it was associated with crossed the state line from Illinois.

The tornado covered a distance of 10.4 miles before dissipating over Delevan Lake.

7 of the tornadoes were rated EF0 with mostly tree damage and minimal damage to buildings.

One tornado in each Dane and Green Counties did EF1 damage. Sheet metal from a shed near Stoughten was carried 400 yards in the Dane County storm and many outbuildings along the path of a Green County tornado were damaged in the other EF1.

The storms that did the damage were part of a massive storm system that affected much of the US with blizzard conditions from South Dakota into northern Wisconsin
and as many as 50+ tornadoes from Wisconsin and Iowa south into Arkansas which were responsible for killing at least 26 people.

Much of the same area will see similar conditions Tuesday as another storm system passes through.
