No surprises as Fond du Lac County leans right in Spring General Election

While Fond du Lac County leaned right in the Spring General Election, the state as a whole leaned left.

The race for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice really wasn’t even close as the Associated Press felt comfortable enough calling it in Susan Crawford’s favor just over an hour after polls closed at 8 PM.
In Fond du Lac County however, Republican Brad Schimel won the vote over Crawford at a rate of 3-2.

The same held true for the race for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. In Fond du Lac County, Brittany Kinser received more votes than incumbent Jill Underly, but state wide it was Underly who came out victorious. Though the position is considered non partisan, Kinser had republican backing while Underly had Democrats behind her.

The one instance where county and state both leaned right was for the referendum to keep voter ID a part of the Wisconsin voting process. That decision will be amended into the Wisconsin State Constitution with a landslide favorable vote.

Area schools didn’t fare well when it came to residents wanting to up their taxes for school referendums.
Fond du Lac, Oakfield and North Fond du Lac all had their referendums voted down, while Waupun was the only one of the four that had a passing referendum vote… just barely, passing with less than a 10% margin.

In other local races, the three Fond du Lac City Council members running for re-election won the bid to serve again. This would be Tiffany Brault, who was the top vote getter. Keith Heisler and Patrick Mullen.

There were no re-elections in the race for Fond du Lac school board however, as incumbent Antonio Godfrey Sr. lost to Karen Moehn, Luke Frame and Thomas Oliver.

Voter turnout statewide was through the roof Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Fond du Lac County would generally see about a 20% turnout for a spring general election but saw a 62% turnout with almost 40,000 ballots being cast. This was most likely the case due to the national exposure the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice received.
