Carol M. Walters

Carol M. Walters, 80, of Watertown, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at noon at Hafemeister Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Family and friends may gather at Hafemeister Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A private, family burial will take place at Ledgeview Memorial in Fond du Lac at a later date. Carol Marie Hoffmann was born January 22, 1944, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Erich and Coralie (Leach) Hoffmann. She graduated from Winnebago Lutheran High School in 1961. Carol married James “Jim” Walters on January 21, 1967, in Eden. Jim preceded her in death on January 1, 2021.

After marrying Jim, they built their forever home in Watertown, where Carol’s passions for gardening, cooking, and thrifting flourished. Known for her generous spirit, Carol found joy in helping others and cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren, as well as numerous memorable trips with her sisters. Carol started her career at the Eden Market before finding her long-term calling in the meat department at Piggly Wiggly, where she dedicated 38 years of service.

Carol is survived by children, Christoph (Paula) Walters of Watertown; Sarah (Ryan) Stern of Sullivan; grandchildren, Brittany (Zachary) Graf; Levi and Colton Walters; Eleanor and Henry Stern; siblings, Erich Hoffmann, John (Lynda) Hoffmann, Jeannie (Mike) Zinkgraf, Diane Cappozzo, and Kathryn Hass; siblings-in-law, Richard “Red” (Susan) Walter; Judith (Larry) Reykdal; Kenneth (Paulette) Walter; John (Patrice) Walter; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Carol is further preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonnie Martin; sister-in-law, Polly Hoffmann; brothers-in-law, Peter Cappozzo, Leo Hass.
