Diane Schabel

Diane Schabel passed away February 20, 2023, after walking this Earth for 88 years, to start her first day in heaven walking with Jesus. She was born on April 7, 1934 in Sheboygan, to the late Anton and Leona (Spry) De Lorme.

Her husband, Henry, of 67 years, sons and wives Mark and Bonnie, Steven and Kay, David and Lisa, Ron and Melissa, Gary and Teri, shared in her last hours here in this life to see her pass peacefully into her new life.

She will be missed, but always remembered by her loving grandchildren Sue (Paul) Perpich, Brian (Vivian Chan) Schabel, Shawn Schabel, Lucas Schabel, Matt (Amber) Schabel, Abby Schabel (fiance Brandon Kwak), Tim Schabel, Ashley Schabel, Sam Schabel, Jake (Krista) Schabel, Sarah Schabel, Eric (Stephanie O’Malley) Shady, Michael Shady, Jennifer Shady and great-grandchildren Kaeden, Cole, Sage, Noah, Zoe, Zaynah, Zion, Jaylyn, Dayton, Dylan and Carter; and her brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Darlene De Lorme.

She became a registered nurse on December 8th, 1955 and spent her career in geriatrics, loving and caring for the elderly. Her heart was for people and in that way she reached out to Saint Vincent de Paul to help other people in need for 15 years.

Diane loved attending the sporting events of her family. She enjoyed crafting, planting flowers, and ceramics with her friends and family.

The true passion of her heart was family and friends. When you came into her presence, you felt this love and peace that just radiated from her heart. You may have come in as a friend, but you left as family. She was “mom” to many people beyond her sons. Her love of life, and her joy and laughter, was contagious.

Thank you, Jesus, for blessing us with our mom. Our loss is heaven’s gain.

A special thanks to her lifelong friend, Kathy Osborne, and to Saint Francis staff for the loving care they showed our mom, and the support they gave our family through the process.

Please join us in celebrating our Mom’s life here and rejoicing in her new life in heaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 27th, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Diane will be laid to rest in Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul.
