Donald A. Muche

Donald A. Muche, 85, of Van Dyne, died on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Harbor Haven in Fond du Lac.

Donald Arthur Muche was born in the Town of Herman to Alfred (Butch) and Elsie nee Schmidt Muche on September 25, 1937. He was baptized and confirmed in Mayville, Wisconsin. He attended Mayville High School and Winnebago Lutheran Academy. On October 18, 1958, he married Sandra Kuehl. Their marriage was blessed with five children, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Don worked at Rueping Leather Co. for 30 years, 9 years at Crown, Cork, & Seal, and then retired to work for his son at Stuart’s Landscaping for a number of years and still enjoyed an occasional ride in their truck with “Papa” John or Mike to pick up supplies.

Don enjoyed bowling and playing softball for many years, even playing on the church softball team with his sons and grandsons. He was inducted into the WELS Mens Softball League 2013 Hall of Fame. His big passion was hunting and fishing having hunted for ten years in Colorado and getting three bull elk. He also had a passion for sturgeon spearing, rarely missing one when the spear was thrown and even getting one when he was 83. Many people enjoyed the wonderful smoked delicacies he prepared for family and friends. He was one of the “stars” with his three sons in the award-winning documentary “The Frozen Chosen”. Many good times were spent watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in their sporting activities and musical presentations. His grandchildren enjoyed his many tongue twisters and quick comeback lines; such as when eating out he was asked how everything was, and he replied “It wasn’t good, it was very good;” also, another saying was “yes, I do not.”

Surviving Don are his wife, Sandy, 5 children, Stuart (Linda) Muche, Fay (Timothy) Boelk, Joy (Dale) Scheer, Paul (Michelle) Muche, and Chad (Shelly) Muche; 15 grandchildren, Jessica (Luke) Loehr, Rachael (Philip) Mathwig, Jennifer (Joshua) Scharf, Mitchell (Ashley) Scheer, Emily (Sam) Warner, Lucas (Courtney), Aaron (Kaysha), Mayson (Taylor), Evan, Roman, Alex, Eli, Lillian, Gabriella, and Evelyn Muche; 12 great grandchildren, Olivia, Easton, Madison and Morgan Mathwig, Autumn and Noelle Scharf, Peyton, Will, and Drew Loehr, Walker Warner, Riley and Corbin Muche.
