Dorothy C. Gyr

Dorothy C. Gyr, 87 died on March 12, 2024 while residing at Liberty House in Fond du Lac. She was born on April 18th, 1936 in Fond du Lac the daughter of Fred and Louise Mathys.

Dorothy married Roland (Ronny) Gyr on December 26, 1956 and was blessed with three children, Susan, James and Kathryn. Dorothy worked for the Brenner Tank Company until the birth of Susan. She then left her job and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She loved to bake and cook for family meals. Her garden was one of her greatest joys and she canned the best tomatoes and pickles. She loved her strawberries and it was quite acceptable to have strawberries and short cake for a meal. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress, sewing her own clothes and making matching outfits for herself, Sue and Kathy.

Dorothy was a dedicated member of Church of Peace and taught Sunday school. She also helped in coordinating and making food for their annual Bazaar. Dorothy didn’t like to sit still. She volunteered during tax season at the Senior Center, babysat children and cared for her mom. Dorothy liked spending time with family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to Kathy’s visits with her dog Tango.

They enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Switzerland after Ronny retired. There were also car rides to the casino and down to Broadhead to visit family. Ronny and Dorothy also took many trips to California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty-six years Ronny, children Sue (Marc) Hipple, Jim (Belinda) Gyr, Kathy Gyr, grandchildren Doug (Beth) Hipple, Michael Hipple, Kyle Gyr and Kasey Gyr, great-grandchildren Griffin Hipple and Weslie Hipple.

The family would like to thank staff at Liberty House and Preceptor Hospice for their care and compassion.

Services will be held Saturday March 23, 2024 at Church of Peace with Pastor Stephen Stepp officiating. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 to 11:00am, with service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Estabrooks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of Peace in Dorothy’s honor or the charity of your choice.
