Dr. Larry L. Heller, MD

Dr. Larry L. Heller, MD, 86, passed away peacefully, into the arms of The Lord, on January 16, 2025, at St. Agnes Hospital with his loving wife and daughter holding his hands. He was born August 17, 1938, to his Harold and Dorothy (Hahn) Heller in Columbus, Ohio.

Larry graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1956. He then attended Ohio Northern University, graduated on June 11, 1960 with a degree in Pharmacy. Larry then attended medical school at The Ohio State University and graduated June 11, 1965. He served in the United States Airforce as a Medical Officer at James Connally Air Force Base from 1966 to 1968. He then entered his Internal Medicine Residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Larry moved to Fond du Lac in 1972 when he joined the Sharpe Clinic as an internist.

In 1976, Larry married the love of his life, Debra Deringer and they chose to build their beautiful life together in Fond du Lac. Larry’s hobbies and interests included golf, reading, riding his bike, playing cards, telling jokes, and watching all college and professional sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes!

In 1995, he left his Internal Medicine practice and entered a fellowship in Addictive Medical at the Dewey Center in Milwaukee. Upon completion, he returned to practice Addictive Medicine at St. Agnes Hospital for the remainer of his medical career. His lifetime of service in the medical field and contributions to his community was recognized by New Philadelphia High School with the Distinguished Service Award in May of 2000. Larry enjoyed 50 years of medical practice in Fond du Lac and retired on December 31, 2022.

Larry served on many Boards of Directors, and was a member of several service and fraternal organizations within the Fond du Lac area. He was a past chairperson of the St. Agnes Hospice Hope Charity Open, board member of both Blandine House and the Gratitude Club of Fond du Lac, served as the Medical Director of Beacon House, active member of the Noon Rotary Club of Fond du Lac as well as the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Store just to name a few.

He was a dedicated and appreciative member of the Holy Family Church, member of the Parish Council, member of the Wednesday men’s group among many other activities. In 2024, Larry and Debra were awarded the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Philanthropic Award by Holy Family Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debra; his three children, Larry “Pug” (Debbie) Heller, Kathe (Steve) Magoline, Jim Williams; grandchildren, Hailey (Alexandre), Jared (Ashlyn), Justin (Julia) Magoline; Zoe and Ava Heller; and Jenna Sokolow; great-grandchildren, Maverick and Kayden Magoline.

He is further survived by his sister, Carol Lynn Guequierre; brothers and sisters-in-law, Al (Dorie) Deringer and Mary (Tom) Holm; special nieces and nephews, Sean (Tammy) Deringer, Aaron (Chrystal) Deringer, Kara (Tim) Meier, Theresa (Joe) Samek, Pat (Alison) Holm; Jennifer (Erik) Johnson and Daniel Guequierre; and was a loving “Gruncle” to many great-nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his special god child Kelly (Jon) Hagman as well as many treasured friends, neighbors, coworkers and patients who all brought so much joy to his life.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, Fond du Lac and again on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth St Way, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM. Committal and entombment will take place at Calvary Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry’s name may be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul of Fond du Lac, Holy Family Warming Shelter, or Holy Family Parish.
