DuWayne W. Zamzow

DuWayne W. Zamzow, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on December 7, 1937, in the Town of Empire to Clarence and Julia (Fritz) Zamzow, DuWayne’s life was marked by a profound commitment to his faith and family. A graduate of Goodrich High School in 1955, DuWayne married the love of his life, Marilyn Lechner, on September 14, 1963. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Vicki (Terry) Schneider, Susan (Steven) Koepsell, and Christine (Joshua) Jopling.

DuWayne’s dedication to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac was evident throughout his life as he served on the Church Council, participated in the tape ministry, contributed to the money counting committee, and extended warm greetings as a member of the greeting committee. His steadfast commitment to his church community was a testament to his enduring faith.

Professionally, DuWayne held various roles over the years, including employment at Krambo Food Store, Al Rollo Hammond Organ Studios, Fond du Lac Stone Co., Badger State Auto Auction, and delivering meals to seniors in Fond du Lac County. His passion for music shone brightly as he spent countless hours playing the accordion in a polka band, bringing joy to many.

DuWayne is survived by his loving wife Marilyn and their three daughters. In addition, he will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Lindsy and Matthew Schneider, Justin (Meredith) Koepsell, Lauryn (Philip) Binversie, Megyn (Mark) Wirkus, and Rylee, Christopher, Alexa, and Airic Jopling, and great grandchildren Sloane Koepsell and Ellyana and Emiliya Wirkus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Howard, and in-laws Hilbert and Elizabeth Kuen.

A visitation to celebrate DuWayne’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1600 S. Main St., Fond du Lac, WI, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, beginning at 9:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Pastor Fred Toppe will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Forest Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Music Fund. The Zamzow family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at SSM Hospice Home of Hope for their compassionate care during DuWayne’s final days.
