Eugene “Gene” D. Balson

Eugene “Gene” D. Balson, 85, of Fond du Lac, was called to his eternal home Monday, September 9, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital.

He was born on January 13, 1939, in Fond du Lac, the son of Warren and Frances Bentley Balson. He attended Nels P. Anderson Grade School, and graduated from L. P. Goodrich High School, Class of 1957. He joined the Army United States National Guard in Fond du Lac. He then moved to the Waupun Rifle Unit, when they were called up for the Berlin Crisis for 8 months. On November 16, 1968, he married Myrna M. Chapman at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher.

Eugene worked with his dad on the family farm, later working at International Paper, and retired from Mercury Marine after 36 years. In his free time, Gene enjoyed getting together with friends and family, playing cards, camping, gardening, and traveling. He was an avid wood worker and a member of the Winnebago Wood Workers Club. He spent much of his time in the basement workshop, but time with his family, and grandchildren meant the most to him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Myrna M. Balson, his children: Alana Balson of Fond du Lac, Corey (Marci) Balson of Fond du Lac, and Jeffrey Balson of Peoria, AZ, four grandchildren: RoseMarie Balson, Cashton Balson, Emily Balson, and McKenna Balson; his sister Marie McEathron of Fond du Lac, his sister-in-law Mary Balson of Fond du Lac, his nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Owen Balson, his sister Joyce (Edward) Pattee, and his brother in law Gene McEathron.

VISITATION: The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, 55 Prairie Road, Fond du Lac.

SERVICE: Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Haugly officiating. Entombment to follow at All Faiths Mausoleum in Rienzi Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Faith Lutheran Church or SSM Cancer Center.
