Grace M. Baxter-Pape
Grace M. Baxter-Pape, 104, of Fond du Lac, went to her eternal rest on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at St. Agnes Hospital.
She was born on November 12, 1916, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of George D. and Stella Rook Rottman, Sr. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School, attended UW-Oshkosh, and later graduated from Moraine Park Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. On September 11, 1937, she married Donald F. Baxter, at First Baptist in Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death in September 1968. She then married Alfred Pape on February 1, 1985. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2008.
Grace worked as a psychiatric nurse at St. Agnes Hospital, working with Dr. Treffert and Dr. Meisensberger. She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church and served in various capacities with the church. She was a very active person and loved bowling, golfing and canoeing in to her 90’s. Grace was a member of the Fond du Lac Order of Eastern Star, was an active member of Fond du Lac Historical Society and Galloway Village. She enjoyed volunteering in the Grandparents Reading Program at Rosenow Elementary School.
She is survived by her children: Gregg (Sharon) Baxter of Eustis, FL, Scott (Betty) Baxter of Dalton, WI, and James Baxter of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, great nieces, great-great nieces and nephews. Grace is further survived by six step-children and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her son David Baxter, her sisters: Alice Bawden, Vivian Brusius and Mary Louise Ryan; and her brother George Rottman, Jr.
Cremation will take place with private inurnment at Rienzi Cemetery. A Celebration of Grace’s life will be held this summer at a date to be announced shortly.
Special thanks to Above and Beyond Care Solutions, Boda’s Restaurant, and St. Agnes Hospital for the end-of-life care given to Grace. Additional thanks to the membership of the Masters Motorcycle Club who supported Grace for many years.
As Grace loved and owned many large dogs, memorials may be directed to Sandy Paws Rescue, Fond du Lac, in Grace’s name.
