Harvey A. Petrie

Harvey A. Petrie, 92, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully at home the morning of May 28, 2024 with his beloved family by his side. He was born on June 5, 1931 on the family farm in Johnsburg to Rudolph and Emily (Andrew) Petrie. Harvey attended St. John the Baptist School; Johnsburg, WI and upon his 8th grade graduation, began helping his father on the farm at the age of 14.

Harvey served honorably in the United States Army from 1954-1956 in Fort Bliss, Texas. After being discharged, he returned to Wisconsin and bought the family farm in 1959. He tended to his cows until 1990 when he sold the farm and moved to Fond du Lac. From there he continued his employment at Nichols Transport, Lighthouse Kiddy Krampus, and Fond du Lac County Senior Services. He finally “retired” at the age of 85.

Harvey married his beautiful wife Rose Ann Schneider on April 4, 1959 at St. John the Baptist, Johnsburg. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage on April 4, 2024.

Harvey had a servant’s heart and spent many hours volunteering in both the Johnsburg and Fond du Lac communities. His efforts included St. John the Baptist Parish Trustee, serving on the original School Board for the consolidated parochial elementary school, coaching 7th and 8th grade baseball, ushering at Holy Family, and serving on the Board of Directors for the Condominium Association for 10 years. He also was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and spent 10 years participating in the weekly home-to-home delivery of the Fatima Statue.

Harvey was an active man. He LOVED the great outdoors and going to state and national parks. He enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting, hiking ,and biking; but didn’t mind winding down for a round of golf or a game of sheepshead. He was an avid sports fan, and was always rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers. Above all, Harvey loved his family, and they loved him. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a mentor, a rock. He will be fiercely missed by those who were lucky enough to know him.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose Ann Petrie; sons James and Douglas (Deb) Petrie; daughters Diane Petrie and Joyce (Steve) Aerts; granddaughters Stephanie (Jon) Turner and Kelli (Ashton) Novy; sister Geneva Kresbach; sisters-in-law Marlys Casper, Janet (Jerry) Lauby, Pat (Gene) Klapperich, Mary (Jim) Pitzen; brothers-in-law David (Rose) Schneider and Gary (Kathy) Schneider; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law Harold and Catherine Schnieder; grandson Nick Aerts; and brothers-in-law Roman Kresbach and Bernie Casper.

Harvey’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Zacherl Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Family Catholic Parish or SSM Health at Home Hospice.
