Henry J. Schabel

Our dependable, hardworking, caring dad went to Heaven to be with Jesus on June 18, 2024. Henry J. Schabel was born on June 3, 1932 in Lastrup, Minnesota to John and Margaret (Kahlhamer) Schabel. He spent most of his young life on a farm near Mayville and he married Diane De Lorme on October 8, 1955. They had a happy life and were blessed with 66 years of marriage. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1951 and joined the Army in 1952 until 1954. He was stationed in Paris.

Henry and Diane raised 5 sons who he was very proud of. He taught them to have good work ethics and how to be good Christian men.

Henry worked for Dodge County after high school for 5 years. He had a sausage route “Old Hickory” for 17 years. His last 23 years he worked at Mercury Marine in Plant 17. He retired in 1994.

He enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader and coached Little League baseball for 13 years in St. Peter. He volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul for 15 years. He also volunteered for Broken Bread. He was a Packer season ticket holder and attended many home games and several fun filled away games. He went on great trips in the US and several out of the country. His travel companions, Don and Kathy Osborn were his best friends. He also loved his garden and woodworking.

Henry is survived by his children Mark (Bonnie) of Oshkosh, Steven (Kay) of San Diego, David (Lisa) of Germantown, Ronald (Melissa) of Combined Locks, and Gary (Teri) of Fond du Lac; 14 grandchildren Sue (Paul) Perpich, Brian (Vivian Chan) Schabel, Shaun Schabel, Lucas Schabel, Matt (Amber) Schabel, Abby (Brandon) Kwak, Tim (Brianna Lynch) Schabel, Ashley Schabel, Sam Schabel, Jake (Krista) Schabel, Sarah Schabel, Eric (Stephanie O’Malley) Shady, Michael Shady, Jennifer Shady; 13 great grandchildren; brother Jim (Mary) Schabel; sister-in-law Janice Schabel; brother and sister-in law Neil and Darlene De Lorme; and brother-in-law Marvin Lee.

He was preceded in death by his wife Diane; his parents, sisters Margie Lee and Theresa (Lloyd) Drake, brother Bob Schabel.

Henry’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin at 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM. Entombment will take place at Calvary Mausoleum.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the many people involved in Henry’s care over the last few months.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul.
