Herbert William Kiester, Jr.
Herbert William Kiester, Jr., passed away on his 96th birthday, September 16, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Iron Mountain, MI. Herb was born to Herbert and Mary Isabella (Behnke) Kiester on September 16, 1929, in Fond du Lac, WI.
Herb married Joan LaVonne Freismuth on August 14, 1954.
Herb honorably served in the US Army Artillery during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. He earned the rank of Corporal for his service.
He worked for Wells Manufacturing for 39 years as a tool and die maker. He also owned and operated the tavern “The Square Deal” for 5 years.
Herb enjoyed following and investing in the stock market but most of all loved spending time with his family.
Herb’s favorite pets were Pepper, Peanuts, Sox, Princess and Toby.
Herbert is survived by his daughters, Paula (Jeff) Kartos and Susan (Joseph Jaeger) Kiester; children of Paula are Craig (Annie) and Carrie; children of Susan are Jacob (Michele), Rebeccah (Shane), MaryAnn, Tamera, Dakota, and Melissa (Hans); grandchildren from Paula are Austin, Kayden, Alayna, Lacie, Grayson, and Brooklyn; grandchildren from Susan are Alana, Titus, Neva, Claira, Liam, and Freyja. He is further survived by a sister, Lila Mae (Vernon) Immel; and many siblings from Joan Kiester’s side of the family, including a special nephew, John.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; a brother, Alan; and his parents.
A visitation will be on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, in Fond du Lac. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. Herb will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service at St. Charles Cemetery.
