James B. Welsh, III

James B. Welsh, III, 85, was peacefully called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.  He was born to James B. Welsh (Bartley) and Viola Draves Welsh on March 12, 1936.  Jim served in the US Navy, stationed in FL, from 1956 to 1958.  On April 15, 1961 he married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Wettstein at St. Mary’s church in Eden.  He attended Mitchell Grade School which stood in the front yard of his present home on County Road B, Town of Osceola. 

He attended Campbellsport High for a few months and then helped his dad work the farm, Mitchell Meadows, a Sesquicentennial Farm Est. 1848.  In addition to working on the farm, he helped set up farm machinery at Sears in Fond du Lac and also drove milk truck hauling cans for Raymond Arndt. 

He was a hard worker, good farmer, lawnmower and excellent dad to his children.  He was very sports minded playing baseball and basketball for many years on various Armstrong and East Shore Teams.  He was a great fan at his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends, and going to the casino.  Jim and Betty enjoyed their memorable trips to Las Vegas and Gary, IN.

Jim had a special smirk, warm heart, and was sharp as a tack.  He had remarkable knowledge of the history of families in his community and tremendous recall of events.  He shared his love of ice cream with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Survivors include his wife Betty and children:  Kathy (Nathan) Krewald, Mike (Kim) Welsh, Tom (Julie) Welsh, Joe (Jackie) Welsh, Sue (Albey) Welsh-Rivas, Barb Welsh, and Bart Welsh (special friend Corina).  Grandchildren:  Kacie Dwyer, John (Kaitlyn) Dwyer, JeanLuc Rivas, Cora, Harper and Aubrey Welsh.  Great grandchildren Letilyn and Tenley Dwyer.  Sisters Ann Gustafson and Bonnie Narges.  In-laws:  Rosalie Engels, Louise and Jerry Ottery, Carol and Jim Mooney, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna (Gerry) Serwe, Charles Gustafson, Kenny Narges, and Jack Engels.

The family extends a special thank you to the St. Agnes Cardiac Team, the staff of 4 West at St. Agnes Hospital, and their family and friends for their love and support at this difficult time. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be directed to Shepherd of the Hills School, Fr. Mike Shea at Sarnelli House, or a charity of your choice in honor of Jim.

A private family service will be held Monday, December 13th at Shepherd of the Hills.  Rev. Mark Jones will officiate and burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
