Joyce C. Zimmerman
Joyce C. Zimmerman, 89, a resident of the St. Francis Terrace, Fond du Lac, passed away August 20, 2014, surrounded by her four children.
She was born December 28, 1924 in Fond du Lac a daughter to the late Myron and Nora Jens West.
On August 7, 1943, she married Gale J. Zimmerman at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac.
Joyce was the glue holding her family together. In her case, she must have been “Super Glue”, because such a tiny bit held so tightly. She was a 1943 graduate of Fond du Lac Senior High School, and celebrated their 70th reunion last summer. Joyce was employed as a ward secretary at St. Agnes Hospital for over 25 years. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and its Bereavement Committee, and the Prayer Network at church. She served as a Communion distributor at St. Agnes Hospital and was a member of the Class of 1943 reunion committee. Her hobbies included reading, attending her grandchildren’s activities, knitting and solitaire. Joyce was a lifelong fan of Fondy Athletics, enjoyed her Bible Study Class, and had a strong devotion to her Christian faith and the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and often participated in the Perpetual Adoration at Sacred Heart Church.
Those Joyce leave behind to cherish her memory include, four children, Steve (Mary) Zimmerman, Julie (Steven) Hafermann, Bill (Kim) Zimmerman, and Annie (Mike) Haskett, all of Fond du Lac, 10 grandchildren, Christy (the late Patrick) Blessing, Mike (Shauna) Zimmerman, Cara (Jason) Blank, Rob (Cindy) Flanagan, Patrick (Rachel) Flanagan, Jodi Hafermann, Tracy (Larry) Rising, Alissa (John) Weber, T.J. (Allison) Zimmerman, Meghan (Chris) Ritchie, Ryan (Ashley Eder) Haskett, 16 Great-Grandchildren and the expectation of twins in January. She is further survived by very special friends Kathy Burkhard, Jane Peterson, and Ruth Weyer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gale in 1987, three sisters, Val (Harold) Gillett, Orion (Joe) Kitchen, and Charlotte (Jack) Bestor, a sister-in-law, Cleone (Ralph) Como, and a brother-in-law, Jack (Jeanne) Zimmerman.
Visitation: The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:45 PM at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Francis Home Chapel on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Rev. Gary Wegner O.F.M. Cap. and Rev. Adrian Staehler O.F.M. Cap. will concelebrate. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.
