Kathie Golla

Kathie Golla, aged 69, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 2, 1955 in Stevens Point, the daughter of Hubert and Janet (Trepkowski) Check. Kathie graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High in 1973. On March 3, 1973 she married Matthew J. Golla at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point.

Kathie worked her dream job as school secretary for over 30 years, with the last 25 years at Waters Elementary School, until her retirement in 2021. She enjoyed crafting, playing games – especially cribbage and participating in her book club. On hot summer days she loved to socialize and cool off at Taylor Park’s pool, as she was an avid water-walker. Everyone that knew her can attest to the way she loved and cherished her relationships with friends and family most of all, never able to throw away something given to her because it carried the memory of them with it. Her smile was beautifully genuine; her heart had endless depth and selflessness, in which she often put others before herself.

She is survived by her husband, Matt, of 51 years; four children, Jerry (Kim) Golla, Charles (Monica Demmerle) Golla, Susan Golla, and Andrew (Nicole) Golla; four grandsons, Jarrod, Fischer, Porter, and Thatcher; five siblings, Donna Kluck, Leroy Check, Lois (Tom) Henke, Terry (Sue) Check, and Tammy Check; in-laws, Connie Check, Michelle (Jim) White, Mark Golla, Monica (Peter) Thome, Tim Golla, Stephanie (John) Haka, Ann (Ken) Raflik, and Rose (Bill) Dickinson; and too numerous to list, beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie (Dick) Kreckel; brother, Bob Check; brothers-in-law, Jim Kluck and John Golla; father-in-law, Jerome Golla; step-father-in-law, Dan Polum.

The visitation will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way in Fond du Lac. Cremation will follow the services and a private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials with Friends of Taylor Park Pool and the Fond du Lac Cancer Center will be established in Kathie’s name.
