LaVern H. Cook

LaVern “Vern” H. Cook, 87, of
Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.

 

He was born on March 18,
1930, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the only child of Harold H. and Mary Modl
Cook.  He was a graduate of Fond du Lac
Senior High School, Class of 1948.

 

Vern served with the United
States Army, during the Korean Conflict, from 1951-1953.

 

On June 1, 1957, he married
Velma J. Loehr, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. 
She preceded him in death on August 19, 2015.

 

Vern was a memorial craftsman
for 50 years with Archie Monuments, later Rock of Ages, then Fond du Lac
Memorials, at the same location in Fond du Lac. 
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Korean War Veterans, and a
life member of Fond du Lac Evening Optimist Club, having held positions as
president, secretary/treasurer, and a board member, and a former member of the
Hamilton Investment Club for many years. 

 

He was an avid Packer,
Brewer, and Bucks fan.  Vern always had a
great sense of humor, enjoyed entertaining, and playing cards, especially a
good game of sheepshead with his “card club friends”.

His gentle spirit and kind
heart will be greatly missed by family and friends.

 

He is survived by a
brother-in-law, Gordon (Cheryl) Loehr of St. Cloud; a sister-in-law, Laura
Loehr of Fond du Lac; nieces and nephews: 
JoAnn Guell, Nancy (Steve) Dorsey, Gordy (Terry) Loehr, Julie Giesen,
Kenny (Julie) Loehr, David (Teresa) Hamilton, Cheryl (John) Gardner, Kurt
(Bonnie) Loehr, Kraig (Joell) Loehr, and Donna Schreiber.

 

Vern was preceded in death by
his parents; his wife, Velma; a son, Mark Alan Cook in 1962; his in-laws,
Reinhard and Julia Loehr; a sister-in-law, Mildred (Don) Schreiber; and
nephews: Kyle Loehr and J.B. Hamilton.

 

VISITATION:  The visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.
on Monday, August 21, 2017             
at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 606 Forest Avenue, Fond du Lac.

 

SERVICE:  The funeral service will be held at 11:00
a.m. on Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. James Borgwardt
officiating.

 

Burial with military rites will
be in Estabrooks Cemetery.
