Mark R. McCormick

Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, Today you will be with me in paradise.”

Mark R. McCormick, 62, of Fond du lac, was welcomed into his Savior’s arms on March 17th,2024 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born to Terry and Christine (Fritzler) McCormick on March 15th, 1962 in Bethesda, Maryland. He was the oldest of 2 boys. He was confirmed in 1977 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Flint, Michigan and continued his education at Michigan Lutheran Seminary. He enrolled at Dr. Martin Luther College, in New Ulm, MN, where he played football for the DMLC Lancers, while getting his Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

Mark married Kamala (Laughton) McCormick on June 16th, 1984 and they enjoyed 39 years of marriage. Mark and Kamala were blessed with 5 children. Together, the family enjoyed countless road trips to Michigan. The Beach House in Mackinaw City, MI will forever hold a special place in the family’s hearts.

Mark loved to teach and to learn. He continued his education throughout his life obtaining his Masters of Arts in education from Viterbo University. He also did extensive theological study at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. Mark was a teacher for 23 years. He had a passion for connecting learning with a love for Jesus and he was impactful to many students throughout his career.

Mark will be remembered by many as “Coach Mac”. Throughout his life he coached football at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. He loved football and had a way of bringing out the God given talents of each athlete. Mark’s love of football will be carried on for generations to come.

Aside from his love for football, Mark was also passionate about music and finding peace in nature. He loved blues rock and artists like Tom Petty, The Band, and Bob Dylan to name a few. Mark’s appreciation of music also inspired him to learn harmonica. He was blessed to continue his enjoyment of the outdoors through his career with Certified Laboratories. Here he was a Forestry Specialist, working in the mines, and quarries in northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s U.P, helping each industry to reach their full potential.

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” Mark was a man who loved Jesus. He led his family with faith, even through trials, until the day he was called home. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father and unforgettable Papa. His will, my faith.

Survivors include his loving Wife of 39 years, Kamala (Laughton) McCormick;

His Children; Son Joshua (Kathryn) McCormick of Fond du lac; Son Aaron McCormick of Milwaukee; Daughter Arianna (Christopher) Wilson of Fond du Lac; Daughter Angelina (David) Davenport of Illinois; Daughter Lauryn (Ethan) Guse of West Bend.

Grandchildren Clayton, Silas and Evelyn McCormick; Ethan, Liam and Penelope Wilson; Hazel and Mark Davenport.

Brother Matthew (Dawn) McCormick of Michigan; Godson and Nephew Zacharias McCormick

Sisters in law Judy (Danny) Tipton; Peggy Ruff; Karen Laughton; all of Michigan.

Many Uncles and Aunts; nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Lawrence and Annette Laughton.

Mark’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, Fond du Lac, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Church, 55 Prairie Rd, in Fond du Lac, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM. A funeral service will take place following visitation at 2:00 PM.

Memorials may be given to the family for a later use to honor Mark’s memory.
