Mark Robert Mattila

Mark Robert Mattila, 69, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Mark was born on December 11, 1956, to Eugene Mattila and Barbara (Wundrock) Setala. He grew up in Wakefield, Michigan, and spent part of his youth in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It was at a fair in the Upper Peninsula that a young Mark met Jeanne. She didn’t quite believe him when he told her he lived in Canada. More than 51 years of marriage later, he had apparently convinced her.

Mark spent 18 years working at a dairy before beginning a roughly 20-year career as a service manager with Truck Country. He and Jeanne eventually made their home in central Wisconsin, where they raised their two sons.

Mark had a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, enjoyed WWE, was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan, and took particular pleasure in giving Packers fans a hard time.

More than anything, Mark spent his life taking care of his family. He wasn’t someone who needed to talk about being generous. If someone he loved needed something and he could help, he simply did.

Mark believed that friends could come and go, but family was always there. He lived that belief, and his family remained the most important part of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanne (Kasieta) Mattila; his sons, Shaun Mattila (Erin) and Matt Mattila (Erin); his grandchildren, Michael, Brennon, Drew, Ethan, Izzy, Laney and Peyton; and his younger brother, Bill Mattila.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Mattila and Barbara (Wundrock) Setala, and his older brothers, Gene Mattila and Jim Mattila.

Mark also had a lifelong soft spot for dogs, including Hershey, Frosty, Cooper, Milo, and Sprout.

For the people who loved him, his absence will be anything but quiet.
