Mary Carol Devey

Mary Carol Devey, 90, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, at Eden Vista in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Mary Carol was born September 24, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio to Wayne and Velma French. She married Arthur M. Devey, Jr. on September 13, 1952, at the Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights, Ohio where they first met as children. The love of her life preceded her in death on January 10, 2008.

Mary Carol attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was a devoted wife and mother, raising her family in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Crystal Lake, Illinois, and South Beloit, Illinois. She moved with her husband to Colona, Illinois, and then to Oshkosh, Wisconsin after his passing. When her needs increased, she moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where her granddaughter, Laura, lives.

In addition to caring for her family, Mary Carol was an active volunteer at the churches she attended as well as with Aglow and Meals on Wheels. She was deeply spiritual and a devoted friend to many. She will be remembered as loving, welcoming, and kind-hearted. Mary Carol was very creative throughout her lifetime, particularly in cross-stitch and the visual arts, creating beautiful watercolor paintings until her last days. Her artwork over the past year shows that her dementia didn’t touch her faith, her creativity, or her love for her husband. She cherished time with her family whether that be at the cottage her father built on Long Lake in Michigan in her earlier years or at her recent 90th birthday celebration. She found particular pride and joy in her grandchildren.

Her family is deeply grateful to the wonderful and dedicated staff at Eden Vista who lovingly cared for her since 2017 as well as Preceptor Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care during her final months.

Mary Carol is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Kurt) Schafer, Albany, Wisconsin; son, Trey (Amy) Devey, Interlochen, Michigan; grandchildren Amy (Kevin) Egan, Rochester, Minnesota; Laura (Jeff) Lamers, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Elsie Devey, New York, New York; Clara Devey, Interlochen, Michigan; and great-granddaughter Rowen Egan, Rochester, Minnesota. She is also survived by her sister Ardis Knarr, Willoughby, Ohio, her nieces and nephews, and her surrogate Webster children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Velma French; husband, Arthur M. Devey, Jr.; brother, Wayne French; and granddaughter, Abigail Ann Schafer.

Mary Carol’s family invites loved ones for a time of visitation at Zacherl Funeral Home at 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Colona United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels, Aglow, Interlochen Center for the Arts, or a charity of your choice.
