Nyleen Schmidt

Nyleen Schmidt, 84, of Fond du Lac, died on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Hospice Home of Hope.

She was born on August 13, 1939, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Glen and Hazel Newton. On December 14, 1957, she married Lyle C. Schmidt, in Fond du Lac. Together they owned and operated Marchant Schmidt Inc. Upon Lyle’s sudden unexpected passing, Nyleen took over as President/CEO of the company. She received numerous professional achievements for her accomplishments as a woman owned business leader.

In Nyleen’s free time, she enjoyed spending time at her second home in Florida. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nyleen fostered 26 children in a 15-year period. She faithfully supported two churches, Faith Ev. Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac and Ascension Lutheran Church in Sarasota, FL.

She is survived by her children: Lyle (Wendi) Schmidt, John (Julie) Schmidt, Richard (Dee Ann) Schmidt, Tara Schmidt; her grandchildren: Bryant Abler, Amber (Tim) Barber, Tiffany (Jonah) Hinds, Nathan Schmidt, Jeff Schmidt, Justin Schmidt, Jessica (Joey) Stark, Sean (Ashley) Kok, Karissa Schwantes, Vanessa Schmidt and Brady Schmidt; great grandchildren: Savannah, Elijah, Easton, Kinsley, Brooklyn, and Levi. She is further survived by her sister Karen (Richard) Rasske, sister-in-law Ginny Newton, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lyle C. Schmidt, sister Gayle (Bill) Haensgen, brother Charles Newton

VISITATION: The family will greet family and friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac and from 9:00 – 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, 55 Prairie Road, Fond du Lac.

SERVICE: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, with Rev. Michael Weigand officiating. Burial to follow at Ledgeview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Faith Ev. Lutheran Church (WELS) in Fond du Lac, WI or Ascension Lutheran Church (WELS) in Sarasota, FL.
