Richard Abig
Richard Abig, 85, passed away on August 6, 2025, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI. He was born on October 23, 1939, in Fond du Lac, to the late Alexander and Lillian (Rauls) Abig.
Richard worked in leather tanning for Fred Rueping Leather Co. and Shawmut Co. in Boston, MA. Richard also co-owned Little People Day Care Center with his wife, Nancy. He later worked at Brooke Industries before joining the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution. He spent 19 years with the University of Wisconsin in facilities management—first at UW–Madison as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at Lowell Hall, and later as Director of Facilities at the UW–Stevens Point – Wausau Campus.
He graduated from Fond du Lac High School and married the love of his life Nancy on October 28, 1961, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Richard enjoyed cooking, photography, model railroading, reading, and golf.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Diane) and Joshua (Nicole); grandchildren, Blake (Cassie), Alexandra, Jackson, and Lyla; and great-grandchild, Elliott. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and sons Randall (Randy) and Richard (Ricky).
In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation is on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, in Fond du Lac. A Liturgy of the Word Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM. Richard will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
