Robert D. “Bob” Breister
Robert D. “Bob” Breister, 89, of Fond du Lac, died Feb. 27, 2025, at St. Francis Home. He was born June 22, 1935, to Hugo and Marcella (Stratz) Breister, in the same Hickory Street home where he lived for eight decades.
Bob graduated from St. Mary’s Springs High School in 1954.
After initially being turned down for a first date, his persistence paid off, and on Sept. 19, 1964, he married Angeline “Angie” Sabel at Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary. In September, they celebrated their 60th anniversary. They loved to travel and have volumes of scrapbooks documenting their adventures. They also volunteered together at Broken Bread for many years.
Bob worked in the grocery business almost his entire career and is best known for owning several neighborhood grocery stores with his wife. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community and a Fourth Degree and honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He loved watching the stock market scroll, chocolate-covered almonds, shirts with pockets, and making his special “mish mash,” but none of these more than his family who he loved to brag about to all who would listen.
Bob is survived by his wife, Angie; two sons, Paul (Linda) Breister and Terry (Karla) Breister; daughter-in-law, Renee Breister (Tom Schuettpelz); six grandchildren, Brooke (Christopher) Jester, Adam, Alex (Taylor), Andrew, Sean, and Bailey Breister; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Breister; and many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Gregor and Caecilia Sabel; middle son, Greg Breister; siblings, Clayton (Sophie) Breister, Ken (Bea) Breister, Jack (LaVerne) Breister, Genevieve Kelly, William (Barbara) Breister, and David Breister; and his in-laws Othmar (Darlene) Sabel and Priscilla (Eugene) Ries.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5pm Thursday, March 13, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5pm. Cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Francis Home, Holy Family Catholic Community, the Broken Bread program, or the charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to thank Lynn Kohlman, the staff at St. Francis Home, and Father Larry Abler for their kindness and compassion.
