Robert David Kaiser
Robert David Kaiser, 82, of Fond du Lac, WI was called home on September 8, 2023, to his Savior in
Heaven and to be reunited with his wife Maureen and daughter Elissa at SSM Health Hospice Home of
Hope due to complications from a stroke and heart failure. He was born September 10, 1940, in Fond du
Lac, WI to Florence (Pfeifer) and Wilferd Kaiser.
Robert graduated from L.P. Goodrich High School in 1958. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1958 and was
honorably discharged while at sea in 1961. His favorite naval assignment was in Key West, Florida
aboard the U.S.S. Bushnell where he worked as a carpenter.
Upon returning from serving his country he began working as a switchman with The Chicago and
Northwestern Railroad in North Fond du Lac. As the railroad made changes and was purchased by The
Union Pacific Railroad, so did Robert. He made moves to Janesville, WI where he dreaded the work
because the double box cars carrying automobiles was dangerous work. He finally made the move to
Adams, WI and retired from the railroad after 40 years. He joked that he didn’t get very far in life as he
was raised on the Kaiser Family Farm, had his first home on the same property, moved across the road to
raise his family and when he retired, he built a new home on the family homestead.
On June 23, 1962, he married the love of his life, Maureen Hoey at St Patrick’s Church in Fond du Lac.
They were married for 52 years. Maureen proceeded him in death on July 27, 2014.
Robert was always willing to pitch a game of baseball for his kids and the neighborhood kids. He loved
to explore what he called “deserted” houses in the Northwoods. He was generous with his time; helping
Cathy with her many moves, taking care of the doggies when asked, helping Kevin on the farm. He loved
to mow lawn as anyone can attest. His love for animals was evident and he gave Lisa a new stuffed
bunny of some kind every Easter. Raising his family on Lake Winnebago, he taught his kids how to swim,
fish and water ski but not how to hunt. He just couldn’t see hurting Bambi’s mom.
Robert is survived by one son Kevin (Lori) Kaiser of Van Dyne, WI; daughter Catherine (Steven) Winters of
Eldorado WI and Son-In-Law Patrick Moriearty of Fond du Lac, WI. He is further survived by his
grandchildren, Elizabeth (Cody) Maeder of Eden, WI, Katie (Justin) Lehman of Jackson, WI, and twins
Grace Winters and Bennett Winters of Eldorado, WI and great-grandchildren Wesley Maeder and Kade
Lehman. Robert is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Hoey of Fond du Lac, WI and many relatives
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maureen, daughter Elissa Marie (Kaiser) Moriearty, parents,
Wilferd Kaiser and Florence (Pfiefer) Kaiser, sister Jeanne (Kaiser) Murray, father-in-law Maurice Hoey,
mother-in-law Florence (Sampson) Hoey and brother-in-law William Murray.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division
Street in Fond du Lac, WI from 9:30 am 11:45 am. Prayers will be offered at 12:00 pm.
Entombment will follow at the Garden Crypt in Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac, WI.
Robert’s family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Asiama, Kelsey Gregory NP and nursing staff at
SSM St Agnes Hospital on 5 South and 6 South, Kristi, Courtney, Cari and all the nursing staff at SSM
Hospice Home of Hope for the excellent and compassionate care given to Robert and his family.
The family would appreciate donations to the Salvation Army as both Robert and Maureen firmly
believed, “no one should ever be hungry.”
